In 2013, we started Carrafarm Irish Horses with the purchase of our first Irish Draught horse Bright Like A Diamond (Hugo). Hugo went on to win the Performance Irish Draught Class for 4&5 year olds at Dublin Horse Show in 2015, ridden by Niamh.

We purchased our first brood mare in 2014, the then 2yo Irish Draught filly Pagestown Harmony (April), by the famous Crosstown Dancer ex Liskillen Harmony (Pride of Glenogra). She is a half-sister of HOYS Champion Cob The Comedian and the Heavyweight hunter Pagestown Principle.

We bred our first foal in 2017. Today Carrafarm is home 4 active broodmares & aim to breed 2/3 Irish Draught & Traditional Irish Horse foals each year.

We aim to give our horses the best possible start, to teach them good manners and only positive experience of humans. We focus on Traditional Irish Horses (TIH) - carefully bred combinations of the bloodlines of the Irish Draught, the Thoroughbred and the Connemara pony.

We show our horses regularly during the Irish summer showing season and we believe that young stock showing classes are useful part of any young horse’s education, allowing them to get out and experience some of the world in their formative years. We compete at the Balmoral Show and Dublin Horse and lots of smaller agricultural shows throughout the year.

We occasionally have homebred stock or a ridden horse to sell. If you are looking for an Irish Draught Horse, a Traditional Irish Horse or similar please contact us and we will let you know if we or one of our contacts have a suitable horse.

We are both council members of the Traditional Irish Horse Association and are proud to play our part in preserving & producing the horses Ireland is famous for.  You can learn more about the work of this association at Traditional Irish Horse Association
